Menat Allah El Attma
Menat Allah El Attma is a diaspora writer, photographer, and Muslim Egyptian immigrant. Currently, she is a third year undergraduate student studying English Literature at the University of California, Berkeley. Whether a pen or a camera, the more Menat practices with these instruments the more she returns to the understanding that the art is in the telling of the story as much as the story itself. Invested in a myriad of art forms, she believes it is necessarily through Art that we can meaningfully study history, science, language, ourselves and each other. She, also, forgoes the notion that is the price or release date of the instrument in use that determines the quality of the artwork itself, may that instrument be a pen, paintbrush, or camera. Her philosophy holds such that anyone who believes the Art lies within the instrument and not the one yielding the instrument neither sees nor trusts the Art within themselves to begin with. And, in result, the everyday beauty around them, though marked 'mundane'.
Below is a sample of her work which was featured in Volume III, published Fall 2018.
